Any TUD students/parents having problems with registration?

Are you also having problems with their new registration system which they only emailed about this evening leaving only one day to register before term starts on Monday? The newly upgraded system seems like a complete mess, is totally convoluted/unintuitive and, as far as my son and I can see, simply doesn't work. And the in person/on site assistance with registration ended on 8th September, 3 days before they even sent the email. We'll try and contact them tomorrow to see if they can advise but I was just wondering if anybody else was going through this mess and stress? :(

Have you spoken to a few of his fellow students?

They must have a student forum to discuss such issues?

Or ring the Students Union.

According to my daughter , everyone she knows has had the same problem . No one has been able to register

Thanks for the update @huskerdu - we'll give admissions a call tomorrow and see if they can advise. Hopefully students can just get it done on campus, in person on Monday if necessary. They seem to have made a right dog's dinner and a complete mess of this merging/upgrade of the various TUD registration systems over the summer so late in the day that it's not fit for purpose for new and returning students.

Same here. My DS was told at Wednesday's orientation that he has to have €750 paid by midnight tonight to ensure he can collect his student ID at 11am tomorrow. The option to pay is disabled and he keeps getting a red error message which results in me/him getting kicked out so I can't do anything as he's gone to work so I can't help at all as the authenticator is linked to his phone.
At least with UCD, TCD, Maynooth 1st years parents could pay directly using the CAO email address. The portals were then reset after 1st February in first year which was practical.

Course co ordinators today were sending out guidance on how to select mandatory modules even though there's no options in Yr 1. All modules are mandatory. But they've been told to select module IDs linked in the guidance mail which don't exist.
Very frustrating.
Also course is dominated by certain Sth Co Dublin fee paying community which is disappointing, He was hoping it would be a broader and more representative intake.

My daughter contacted me on Monday to pay the fees, but it says we should pay double! €6000. After contacting the uni, and being put through to IT a ticket was raised. Within 24 hours she was notified that it was corrected. We tried again on Tuesday, and it was corrected on one screen, but the payment portal still says €6000 are owing. We’re still waiting for a fix. She is a second year student and does have to select modules. No, we haven’t paid as I also couldn’t see easily how to pay a %. But maybe we didn’t look hard enough. For a university offering IT courses it’s a pretty embarrassing situation.

Was she able to do this or can that only be done after paying the fees? This is what my son is struggling with and the system just doesn't seem to work properly plus modules are in the wrong section (e.g. elective versus mandatory) so it's impossible to achieve the required credits total in order to be able to make progress with the registration.

He also entered his SUSI grant reference at one point but the form asked for it twice in the same page like the fields were inadvertently duplicated. And then data that had been entered last year for first year registration suddenly became invalid. E.g. phone numbers that now had to be changed from +353 format to 00 353 format for no obvious reason. But only on some pages and not others. Ridiculous carry on.

Called admissions and they're very aware of the issues that many students are having and if they can't get through the registration process over the weekend then they will be sorted out with assistance on campus next week when they go back. Phew!

My son's experience went from bad to worse today. He arrived at Grangegorman to collect his ID card but they told him they couldn't help him as he hadn't paid the €750 deposit. He explained the IT issues so they sent me a temporary link to access his account for 24 hrs. Except the link wouldn't work and I got locked out completely. They told him they couldn't help him until he paid the deposit. So he ended up paying the deposit with his own card and I repaid him. He's 18 next week so a lot of life admin to learn/sort.

After all that the ID card wasn't ready so he has to come back next week. The admissions team also told him he had picked too many modules for the first semester (40 credits). He showed them the mail from the course co ordinators who advised to do this yesterday even though all modules are mandatory in Yr 1. It seems slightly chaotic TBH, we never had any problems with Maynooth or TCD before. UCD was always stressful trying to ensure the preferred electives were registered.

Clubman, we also had that issue with the prefixes for telephone numbers, the format was different on the emergency contact phone number.

I'm not surprised. The registration and module selection system is a mess. My son didn't make any progress today so will just have sort it out on campus (Tallaght) on Monday which the admissions office said on the phone earlier would be ok. Fingers crossed and hope your son also gets sorted then...

Yeah, no consistency in the forms at all. Crazy stuff.

I feel particularly sorry for first year students, those having to move into term time accommodation while trying to deal with the registration mess, and foreign students paying huge fees only to be greeted by this debacle...

I agree. This is my 6th (and possibly last) time registering a student in TUD so Im very relaxed about it but its not fair on new students

I'm currently in TUD year 1, has anyone got their registration email yet? I had to log a ticket today and was told to bear with them as they went though it. Students who are getting the back to education allowance need to be on the system before that can happen, same with the laptop loan scheme, they need to be on the system to avail of that too. It's very annoying

As I mentioned earlier, my son got sorted when he started back in 2nd year last week (Tallaght), but he said that many students were still having issues with registration, module/credit selection, and timetables today.

Could you contact admissions, student union, class rep, year tutor etc. to get assistance maybe?
