I live in Blackrock, Dublin. We seem to be getting one delivery of post per week. It seems that Wednesday is the day in our area where post is being delivered.

Casually speaking to another person who lives in Stillorgan they were saying that they got an appointment letter from a hospital today that was posted a week ago.

I have been expecting a letter that was posted to me last Thursday and still no sign of it yet.

Anyone else experiencing similar?
 
I'm in Dublin 5 and I certainly see post worker going about daily in the area (with bike), so it's not the case that e.g. only covers this route once a week.
The area is also covered frequently by An Post van delivering larger parcels.
That doesn't rule out delays \ backlogs \ batching going at at sorting level.

The postal service also said it was “hit hard” by absences due to illness in the post-Christmas and early January period, which in some areas affected a small number of delivery routes and arrangements were made to cover as many routes as possible each day. Since then, most staff members have returned to work following illnesses.
 
Guys, you could test this fairly easily through Askaboutmoney.

11 of you get together via DMs or an Instagram Group.
10 send a letter to the 10 others on the same day.
See when they arrive.

Rules
Must be clearly addressed - ideally typed.
Must include the eircode
Must have an N stamp
Must be posted by the time of the last collection e.g. at my local post box, it's 17.30

Try and vary the locations. 2 in Dublin. 2 in Cork. 1 in Limerick. One in a remote location. etc.

As I write this, I am sure that this must have been done.

We have a target of 94% for next day delivery (D+1) and a 99.5% target for delivery within three working days (D+3) for standard, domestic stamped and metered mail.
 
In Wexford, post every day. An Post Christmas card was the first one we got, in mid December.
Posted jacket left behind by family member on Friday afternoon in November in Courtown, delivered to Kilkenny Saturday morning (same week!).
Happy with service.
 
I posted a registered letter on 31st December, 35 mins before collection time in the branch post office. The counter staff confirmed that post was being collected that day and the collection would be at the normal time. The letter was delivered at 9:30 on 6th January.

Is this a record ?

I’d be happy to take part. It would be great to have confirmation of just how wretched the delivery service is.

An option would be to use An Post digital stamps, as these sometimes (but not always) provide notification of date and time of delivery which would be useful for corroboration purposes. They are slightly more expensive.

I’d suggest that the exercise is scheduled for this month before the price increase kicks in on 3rd Feb.
 
Postal deliveries in East Mayo have been and are still reliable from Monday to Friday. The postal vans are out all 5 days and there is no sign of a cutback in delivery days at all.
Please take note that many state institutions have the habit to sent out their mail only ONCE a week. All mail is collected during the week and then brought to a post office on a Friday or whatever the postal day is for that institution. This is done to cut down on administration costs.
The date on an appointment letter is therefore NOT the day the letter was posted. The letter stayed in the hospital or wherever it was written for some time until it was moved to a post office and An Post cannot be blamed for that.
 
Sent a parcel to FortWillam Scotland on 13th December by registered post it only arrived on 16th January because I filled a form out for missing post. It was sitting in the Dublin sorting office. I'm waiting on a parcel to arrive and the tracker is saying it is in Dublin sorting office since 13th January
 
Nobody other than a person still living in their parents home could afford to live in Blackrock, or any other part of Dublin, on postal workers wages

It's amazing that there is any Dublin post delivery service.
