Alu Clad windows

I'm currently trying to decide on the type of window to put into my house. I like the idea of Alu-clad and have come across two types

1. a wooden window with alu-cladding on the external wooden part

2. a window with wood on the inside only and aluminium on the outside, with the two material separated (more or less) by the glass.

Now both windows have similar u-values, which i would imagine is the main consideration. Is this correct?

The first option is nicer looking (with a price to match!) but am wondering if there is anything else that I should be aware of before making my decision i.e. is option 2 a poorer option for our climate

Thanks in advance for any useful pointers

This thread may be of interest.

I've bought aluclad from Marvin Architectural in the past. Expensive, but the product, service and installation were all outstanding. And I mean outstanding: it's hard to overstate how professional these guys were in every way.
