Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

I need to book 3x flights for next year, 2 of which should be free flights. What's the best way to book the third flight so we can all sit together? I don't see anything obvious on the Aer Club or Credit Card websites.

I booked the 2 free flights with minimal hassle and will be partially paying for the third with Avios. I'll need to pay extra for assigned seating to make sure we are all sitting together.

As compared to the prices for the same flights currently on the Aer Lingus website we'll be saving €750 altogether- about €350 (including assigned seating) return for 3x flights to the sun during the peak season, which is significantly less than any flight to the same city in the next 12 months.

In summary, I'll be keeping my Aer credit card for the foreseeable future.

Have it a couple of years now. The booking of the 2 free flights is near on impossible. There is never any available when I look. Even routes you would think not overly popular and in April.2026.
The search function is poor.
The odd time if say I find a flight to somewhere like Malaga the next return flight I can book is 3 weeks from departure so no use for a weekend away.

Customer service is non existent too.

That is the exact opposite of my experience.

But my flights are next July and one thing i saw here and on boards.ie is that the early bird catches the worm in terms of getting the two free seats per flight.

If I have two free flights available do I have to use them on dates before the 12 months is up? Or can I book into 2026. I'm facing this situation now and have a busy last few months of the year so am not sure where a holiday fits in.

Hi Folks,

Just resurrecting this old thread..

Has anyone managed to secure the two free flights recently from Aer Lingus/Bank Of Ireland? I have had four rejections in the last couple of days even though the dates I am trying to book are for months out and all different destinations.

I have noticed that when you choose a particular flight and destination and its available on Aer Lingus.com, when you move across to the cc portal, the flight dates offered with possible availability “in green” have no flights operating for the most part on that day, to that particular destination.

For eg… Destination operates Mon, Wed, and Friday only but the portal offers you Tuesday and Thursday option to request.

Starting to wonder is it worth the hassle of persevering with it.
Anyone else noticed this?

I have managed to claim my 2 flights every year, but I do book well in advance. Currently in Spain with a friend for a week, courtesy of the card. The free flights costs us just under €50 each in fees and taxes, but included permission to take cabin bag on board and gave us seats at the front, which I have also noticed with previous flights.
I have never had one of my requests rejected.

I also usually manage to get flights, especially for locations like London with multiple flights a day, but have also booked flights to Italy. I find Avios points are better though which you can earn through the card or using the portal for bonus points - much more flexibility!

Yes - return Seville for 2. Total cost about €35. However, I booked about a few weeks ago for December. Requested Sunday afternoon, confirmed overnight !

Yes - you have to find days where there is a flight & the calendar allows it. Not so much a problem where there are many flights. However, the system is a bit clunky. For me, the card pays for itself via the Travel Insurance alone. Everything else is a bonus.

We travel to the Canaries every year on the free flights. Taxes are lower for the Canaries flights. Usually have to adapt our dates to the available flights which is no problem for us. The only issue is that you can't book your seats online and have to ring Aer Lingus. Otherwise, it's brilliant.

On the 6th attempt I finally was offered 2 flights with taxes and fees €136. (For 2… standard for the destination). Thank you all for your replies.

I had same issue as Armada - got free flights last March , tried to book several destinations for July , all rejected - website (Aerclub ) is not user friendly at all even though there might be flights available for the days I requested (shown as available)- 5/6 requests all refused , eventually I got 2 flights to Bilbao for next week. Very frustrating

I think you need to just book way in advance, I've booked flights for Faro for next August and it was all sorted in a day. But I agree the process is ridiculous

I didn’t think it would be much of a saving booking somewhere like that a year in advance but you’re looking at about 300 euro per person, which isn’t bad at all.
