Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

praying someone might be able to help as getting nowhere with 365 call centre.
Does anyone have a AL credit card but not a BOI current account? Im trying to find out how to transfer into it to pay for use. Took 3 weeks to get the card and only today sorted on 365. Cant see anywhere on 365 to add a payee and AIB doesnt allow setup of a CC. Revolut also wont allow irish CC transfers (gives an error message). Theres no way i can walk into a branch every month and pay it off given amounts i might spend.
See theres a "loan" account on the 365 app which has an IBAN but not sure i could transfer into that and also then payoff the AL CC.
Know its hit and hope but does anyone use it without a BOI current ac?

@breener I had the AL credit card for a year, didn't use the benefits so went back to ordinary card. I make payments either by withdrawing cash and going into a branch and lodging with machine or do a transfer from N26 to the IBAN given and credit card number as reference. Perhaps get an N26 account so you could do this type of transfer? I also don't have a current account with BOI.

cheers @dubliner8. Just found an online article referencing the IBAN and CC number you suggested. Likely try that route using Rev to avoid taking out cash!
  • BIC: BOFIIE2D
  • IBAN: IE46BOFI901538999*****
  • Reference: you must add the FULL card number which appears on the front of your card

@breener Yes the above is also outlined on your credit card statement. Revolut warned me when I made a similar transfer from them to my BOI card that it was not allowed in terms and conditions so I wonder if that will also happen if you try it?

@dubliner8 Just did a €10 transfer to see how it goes. will await a warning from revolut! ordering a transaction which is most of the €5k requirement for the free flights in the coming days so hence trying to figure out if alternative methods, rather than cash into the branch, will work.

I have the BOI Aer Card, but no BOI bank account.
I pay each month from my AIB current account using the AIB app. IBAN as provided by Aer Card start up info
I've had no problems
Credit card is entered as a Bill

I've been paying off my BOI Credit Card via Revolut for years as I don't have BOI Current Account. I put it through as a payment using the IBAN, BIC and reference number. Never had an issue but might just have been lucky.

Same - card number goes into the reference field.

I got my cc yesterday, finally, now I need to use it somewhere in person to validate it and then I will use it for everything to build up the points.

I also don’t have a BOI account so can’t set up banking 365 as far as I can see.

I have thousands of avios points on my aer club account, I just need to figure out how to use them to book flights.

After a few lengthy circular calls with BOI apparently it’ll take a few days to get set up to actually use the card online. Amazing that it took them ages to tell me that. I followed the instructions on the letter and called the number given. And now I just wait. It seems to be have taken them by surprise that I don’t have a current account with them although I’m sure that question was part of the application in January….

Oh well. I’ll get there eventually

I find it well worth the annual fees. And while one may need to make a few attempts to use the free flights I’ve always managed to get same each year. What is especially useful in my view is if someone in your family is older/over 70, the included travel insurance is very useful as covered (I recall) up to 80. Whereas regular travel insurance can be quite costly over 70.

I’ve also linked it to my Revolut card so top ups to Revolut also earn points.

I haven't had any issues using the free flights. I booked two flights to Mallorca for July this year. I booked them back in January and had no issues booking them. The flights would have cost me €800 but I only had to pay the €90 or so taxes. The travel insurance also covers your spouse so I think it is well worth the monthly fee.

Hi @Annieindublin yes. I apply via the Aerlingus app under the Aerclub section. There is a request form to complete. On my last I got return to Venice (just one flight this time as was all I needed) for €37 taxes. And one of the legs was guiding on the Aerlingus site at over €350 for the date I needed. As I understand it they ringfence a few (I think I once heard 4) seats per flight and the first request gets them.
