Hi,
I was on a good €20 per mth cancelable at any time plan with 3. Own my own phone. It was a 12mth deal so now it reverted to the €35. Use my phone mostly browsing, wats app, occasional text and phone call. Will use during Summer for hols abroad.
Is there any provider out there with good coverage that does a deal around €20 a mth or are those deals gone.
Thanks

Doesn't matter how good the deal is, the network is usually the defining factor.

There are only 3 networks at the end of the day, Eir, Three & Vodafone. You've a choice of going with any of them, or any of the virtual operators who use those 3 networks.

If you're happy with Three, you could look at a virtual operator for a better deal. You can familiarise yourself with who piggybacks on who right here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Irish_mobile_virtual_network_operators

And be aware that with most of the virtual operators roaming service/data can be hit and miss. E.g.:
I'm saying that as a 48 user who, in the past, had no problems roaming (NI, France) but hasn't travelled lately and see lots of complaints about roaming problems on 48 and all of the other MVNOs.

Get our new and improved replacement SIM
Hi ……

Last summer we contacted our customers to acknowledge the issue that some customers experienced connecting to a service while roaming abroad. As part of our ongoing commitment to improve your experience, a number of enhancements have since been made.

In September, we launched 4G EU/UK roaming for all customers, so you remained connected to data as EU operators have begun retiring their 3G service.

To continue to strengthen your connection, a new and improved 48 SIM has been designed and is available to order now. Once activated, your new replacement SIM will ensure you automatically connect to a local network while roaming, reducing your troubleshooting efforts going forward.
We’d like to thank you for your loyalty and patience while these works were carried out and encourage you to order your free replacement SIM today. See the steps below on how to order!

Few years back, I used to do a lot of travelling across Europe and US for work. Vodafone roaming was the best for both data and calling. They included Switzerland in free EU roaming and outside Europe a standard per day charge of 4.99 for unlimited use was very good. Now use Tesco mobile but miss convinient roaming of Vodafone whenever I go on holidays.

I got that email from 48, and I got the replacement SIM. I still can't get data roaming in NI.

I am in the States approximately once a week with work and so far, I’ve never been able to roam with 48. I was hoping the new Sim would finally allow me to.

I live within sight of the border and have friends, family and business contacts on the Northern side. It's easy to get a package with Northern landlines included, but I would love one with inclusive calls to UK mobiles. Anyone know of any?

Would you consider getting a dual SIM phone and a pay as you go SIM from a UK network? I carry an O2 UK SIM, and can phone or text UK mobiles from Ireland at the same rate as if I were in the UK.
It's also useful to have a 2nd SIM when my roaming with 48 fails!

Thanks. That's actually my solution at the moment, but it's a bit clunky. Plus, I don't really want people to have to try two numbers to get me.

Don't all Irish mobile providers (have to?) treat NI landlines called using the 048 rather than 00 44 prefix as Irish national calls covered by normal call minutes allowances, credit etc.?
Yes, I think so. NI mobiles are the big problem for me. Most of the in-laws are Nordies and have UK numbers.
I would have thought it a sizable niche that some operator would try to commandeer, but apparently none are interested.
