Rearing a Pig for freezer

Its not really you know. For us it costs about €250 to produce a pig like that. If you wanted to make a few bob from the enterprise it would work out very expensive. On the other hand it is very doable to keep a pair of pigs yourself!

I'd say don't buy piglets from somewhere they are reared indoors because if the weather is bad they may fall ill before climatizing to living outside.

absolutly. I find the best breeds to be the old fashioned hardy brreds like the saddle back, glouster old spot and the like

Hi Liam, all. Yes, pigs are lovely animals and deserve far more respect than the conditions they suffer in commercial pig farms. Freerange is the way to go.

Good article about rearing a pig.
I wish I'd the space to do it.

My neighbour had 2 up to Tuesday, looking forward to a nice bit of pork/bacon in 2 weeks time. Bought one of them and will share it with my brother. 1/2 bacon and other 1/2 cured pork. I'm told that the taste will be far superior to what we are used to. These were out and about pigs so to say.......... not confined to concrete !

Costing us €120 each all bagged etc for each 1/2 pig
