yellow corners on painted white walls?

hey all,

just an enquiry .... we have been having our house plastered since last july .... we waited a month to paint our sitting room & as soon as we were painting it white, all the corners in the room (windows) turned yellow, the whole strip down where the angle beading had been put

at first we thought maybe the plaster wasn't dry enough, despite warmish weather & being given plenty of time to dry out, so we waited another month & repainted over the corners again.

& we still have exactly the same problem .... all our corners are still yellow despite having been given 4/5/6 coats of paint at this stage.

our plasterer is trying to convince that we should just paint our room a different colour.... & is offering absolutely no solution ...

now, after paying a small fortune for a good plasterer & going to so much trouble building our house, i would at least like the option of painting the room white or cream....

sorry, am a bit frustrated at the moment .... has anyone else encountered this problem, & if so what solution have ye found?

really don't want to hand over any more money until he has done something to sort it .... (he still has not finished our plastering)

would appreciate any advice & thanks in advance :)

Re: yellow corners on painted white walls????

If it water/dampness paint wont cover it you need to get a stain block and give the area a few coats then paint as normal.

Do a search here and you should a few product names.

Re: yellow corners on painted white walls????

One of the reasons for this is the compound that the beading was stuck with. If it was Bonding compound/adhesive (not Bonding plaster) then that discolours yellow. If you sand off the paint in the offending area, prime it with a pva mixture and then paint, it should solve the problem. If it is dampness, then you have to sort that first. If the boards were 'blobbed' to the wall - there may be too much adhesive behind it and it would take yonks to dry out.

Hi Rose,

We have had the exact same problem all paint on corner and angle beads and over the mushroom fixings for the insulated board have come up yellow, as said above it is due to the bonding and bead with the hardwall drying out slower in this area it will rectify itself once heat has been turned on, if you paint it again at that stage it should be ok.
