xp connect to internet

everyone running XP Prof can connect to a work lan and then to the internet with just a proxy server address
excep my laptop running XP Pro.
IT are perplexed, anyone any ideas?

Are the work PCs and the laptop all at the same service pack and Windows Update patch level? Any specific error messages or behaviour that might help diagnose the problem? Any firewall (including XP built-in firewall) on enabled on the laptop but not the the other PCs? Have you checked the XP Event Views for possible error/warning events that might be relevant?

have to check, assume that they are all xpSP2 so
i have just installed SP2 and need to try again
