Work Experience and Insurance Cover

A colleague's sister is currently completing a part time office admin course and is looking for work experience. As the course is part-time no work placement is scheduled as part of the course.

She has obtained a 1 day/ week placement with a local public service organisation. However, on her first day, she was advised that they would not be able to facilitate the placement as she does not have appropriate insurance cover from her college/ elsewhere. I understand this would be needed to indemnify the organisation.

Can she arrange this cover elsewhere?
 
She should check with her Academic Institution again regarding the insurance policy. If they have any students who go out on placement their policy will typically cover any student in the Institution whilst they are on work placement.
 
Well done on getting work experience- it can be difficult for first time. I know some VEC colleges who offer part-time courses (without work experience) will not cover a work placement re. insurance.
