If your employer wants to send you to work on a project abroad for a few weeks/months, does anyone know if you would be entitled to some kind of travel allowance or something? (apart from flights, board and lodgings). I wont say where the abroad is, but you can assume it is very far and 3rd world.

There would be no legal entitlement - just what the company chooses to offer you.
You need them also to consider the tax implications of working in this other country - will they cover any such liability for you? Will they tax equalise you or tax protect you?

Depending on the country, your salary may be taxable there as well as in Ireland depending on their own domestic rules.

Has you HR department not discussed this with you?

No, not as yet anyway. I thought it might be one of those ''if you dont ask, you dont get'' things.

If they routinely send people abroad, they may well have a special expat policy set up to cover all of these issues.

If you are the first person, then it will all be down to you negotiating.

We get a flat rate per diem allowance for both internal & offshore travel. Offshore is 50% more internal travel. The rate is €68 without breakfast included or €48 if breakfast is included in your hotel. This is to cover food, newspapers & entertainment not travel expences.
