Wooden Flooring - Fit In Car?

Hi,
Apologies if this is a silly question but I'm a complete novice when it comes to building etc.
I am in the process of buying a builders finish house.
I intend to put solid wood flooring into the sitting room and probably the master bedroom as well.
My question is - if I was to travel around a bit and shop around to find the best prices for materials - would timber flooring for 2 rooms (average sized sitting room and average sized bedroom) fit in my car?
I have an Audi A3 but could get access to a larger car if necessary.
Or would I definitely need some sort of van or trailer to transport this?

It 'may' fit (probably with the boot open) but it's a deceptively heavy item and so you'll potentially hurt the car.

Get a trailer or van, definitely !
 
Better idea - why not purchase your flooring from an outfit that will deliver or alternatively have your Builder collect the flooring.
 
no you would need a van , for the area you want to floor you would need about 30-35sqyds and theirs about 2-2.5 sqyds in a box thats about 15 boxes that are 6ft long , hope this helps , you should get solids from about e26 up at the moment

Another question which may also be silly but here goes...
When deciding how much flooring you need - how much extra do you need to get to cover yourself?
By this I mean - say I wanted to put a floor down in a room that was 12' x 14' [12 X 14 = 168 square feet * 0.11111111 = 18.666 square yards].
When purchasing flooring for this area of 18.666 square yards I presume you would need to purchase a bit extra to cater for any cutting of timber etc that may need to be done?

Certainly buy a few extra packs, but on condition that if they are unopened, the supplier with accept them for refund. Are you planning to lay the floor yourself, or is someone else doing it? An experienced floor layer (or the supplier) will help you with quantities, and if they take back what is not opened, you can't lose! A tip - if you are doing it, and it's your first time, allow for mistakes!!

Get the wood delivered, it is very heavy and you may damage it or yourself putting it into the car.

As for how much extra to get do your measurements and add 10% but agree that any unopened packs be returnable. Also, after you add the 10% if this means you need 10 boxes with only say 1 board from the last pack just buy 9 boxes.
 
Go to Woodworkers on Mount Tallant Avenue in Harolds Xross. Best prices and best advice. No connection but a satisfied customer for alot of flooring.
