Wireless USB Adapter

Hi, My family are connected to BT wireless broadband, and I have been using the following USB adapter to pick up the internet in my bedroom three floors away from the port:

I was just wondering, if I was to buy a cheaper USB adapter, would it work okay, or do I have to buy the above to use the internet connection? What do I need to look out for when shopping? Many thanks,
 
Any 802.11 (b = 11Mbps, g = 54Mbps theoretical speed) adaptor should do. You can get generic wireless network adaptors (and lots of other bits and pieces) for peanuts from www.dealextreme.com for example.
