Wire Free Alarm/Cable Alarm

Doing renovations to house at moment. The builder wants to leave some wires jutting out so that the alarm guy can do the cabling for the alarm. Currently alarm is completely gone - 21 years old - not working at all. I'm not in favour of this and think I would prefer a wire free alarm. Any advice greatly appreciated once again!

Wire free alarms are good if you cant get cables installed but if your builder is willing to install cables for the whole alarm i would get him to do that. Wire free alarms cost alot more than a wired alarm plus they have more maintenance on them. Make sure he puts in a cable for the phone also in case you want to connect the alarm to a dialer for monitoring, plus a beam or two in the house.
 
Hi! Thanks to both of you for your replies. The wiring for the old alarm is already there and the builder suggested leaving it jutting out so that a new alarm could be installed. Old alarm was completely wrecked. Haven't got a quote for either a new wired or wire free alarm. Didn't realise that a wire free alarm was a lot more expensive and needed more maintenance. It seems taht maybe leaving the wires jutting out untill I can get a new wired alarm is the best option. Builder not doing that part of the job - so will have to get it done myself. Thanks again.

If the cables are as old as the old alarm your better off getting the lot rewired if you want to get a wired system installed. Wired sensors dont need as much maintenance as there is not much involved in them.

The wire free sensors need to be maintained to make sure they are working plus the batteries need to be changed every 2 - 3 years depending on what system you get installed.
