Firstly, your lucky he has offered to repair it.
Secondly, Above is one reason why I avoid car washes, the other is that it is my opinion that they are by and large responsible for increasing the speed at which your cars paint corodes.
They put enormous stresses on the paintwork etc of your car (look for sworls, circular abrasive marks in the paintwork on a sunny day) these are evidence that the car has been through car washes, all the wax in the world wont repair them.
Point is, it may be a pain in the butt, but persevere with a hose down, sponge off heavy dirt, re hose down, lather up and final hose down (even dare i say it a home power washer set on a low power setting) and you will keep your car gleaming for years with far less obvious paintwork damage.
