Hi.
I'm knee deep in an energy retrofit I'm trying to pull off on a tight budget. I'm fitting the windows with my pops who has experience fitting windows but little knowledge of energy efficient practices. With that said, I think the windows I have delivered (set to be installed in a few weeks due to other delays onsite) are incorrect.
I have a hollow block construction so my father was reluctant to use something like compacfoam to make a subframe that sits in the insulation layer due to concerns the weight of the windows might compromise the structural foams fixings in the hollow block.
The compromise has been to install the windows flush with the face of the hollow block. They will have compacfoam underneath. On the sides and top they have a 50mm hollow frame extension profile (I'm worried about this part). My pops reckons this 50mm profile is acting as a thermal break. He plans to let the EWI installer finish his insulation covering the 50mm part and continue 25mm onto the window frame.
Is this advisable? Given I already have the windows ordered, what other options have I got at this stage to course correct?
Thanks
