Windows delivered but error made

Hi.

I'm knee deep in an energy retrofit I'm trying to pull off on a tight budget. I'm fitting the windows with my pops who has experience fitting windows but little knowledge of energy efficient practices. With that said, I think the windows I have delivered (set to be installed in a few weeks due to other delays onsite) are incorrect.

I have a hollow block construction so my father was reluctant to use something like compacfoam to make a subframe that sits in the insulation layer due to concerns the weight of the windows might compromise the structural foams fixings in the hollow block.

The compromise has been to install the windows flush with the face of the hollow block. They will have compacfoam underneath. On the sides and top they have a 50mm hollow frame extension profile (I'm worried about this part). My pops reckons this 50mm profile is acting as a thermal break. He plans to let the EWI installer finish his insulation covering the 50mm part and continue 25mm onto the window frame.

Is this advisable? Given I already have the windows ordered, what other options have I got at this stage to course correct?

Thanks

Well, perhaps incorrect is poor use of language on my part. The windows are great. It's just I'm aware there are more energy efficient methods to install them. I'm incredibly unaware as to how these might work.

If you're on FB try posting on the Self Build & Renovation page, you still might not get the detailed correct answer you need but better chance at least!

Thanks for the input ClubMan. I agree it's fairly niche.

I think I'm in the right ball park given the constraints with the hollow block structurally and judging by how some of the neighbours are finished (windows not moved out at all), I think I'll have a slightly better solution but was hoping I might be able to get some additional pointers.

Anywho, thanks for the input.

You could try pasting your post into ChatGPT. It is good at parsing complex questions and bouncing ideas around with to know if you're in the right ballpark.

Thanks Monbretia, much appreciated. I'll necromance the old FB and see if anyone over there can offer some advice.

Thanks for the suggestion Corola. I've been bouncing ideas around with ChatGPT already. It's an incredible tool.

Apologies for cramming all the replies in one. I can only post once an hour as a new user.
