Will i get a Mortgage with a Fixed Term Contract?

Hi all,

I recently recieved a 2 year fixed term contract with the HSE.

2 quick questions.

1) Will the banks give me a mortgage based on this?

2) Even if they do approve me do you advise me taking one on or wait till the 2 years are up and review the situation then?

Were you already in employment with the HSE? banks will be more interested in your working history, than what contract you have at the moment.
Any mortgages offered will be based on what you earned last year not what you will be earning for the next 2 years.

9 months ago, dp and I were looking for a mortgage, me, full time civil servant (permanent), dp on fixed term contract - had huge difficulties getting the amount we were looking for as the bank felt fixed term contract was just that and did not show dps ability to pay mortgage if contract was not renewed.......not sure if thats the norm, but it took some fairly heated words between myself and the bank before we got the mortgage
