Why do we bother recycling?

Well I suppose a good reason to read it is that it addresses and possibly debunks the myth that plastic packaging reduces food waste
It did the opposite in the case of food waste precipitated by the chemical properties of bananas and how plastic packaging can reduce that.

I'm amazed you didn't see that first time around.

I can't speak for your amazement about my personal cognitive abilities.

But surely having read the article now you can see that the research acknowledges the potential 'food waste precipitated by the chemical properties of bananas' and 'how plastic packaging can reduce that', while then going beyond that knowledge to show how those potential waste reductions are cancelled out and exceeded by waste caused by overconsumption (people being encouraged to buy more than they need).

That seems to me to be the gist of the article and the underlying research. I'm sorry to have to spell it out (again).
