I'm new to eBay, but I've have seen a few auctions there where a bidder appears to bid against themself.
Here's a portion of a "bid history" in a recent auction; there were no bidders between these bids. All bids were placed by the same bidder (I've changed their bidding name).
bidder1 £47.00 25-Apr-05 08:36:48 BST
bidder1 £37.00 25-Apr-05 08:36:35 BST
bidder1 £31.00 25-Apr-05 08:36:24 BST
bidder1 £27.00 25-Apr-05 08:36:14 BST
If the person places a bid of £27.00 at 8:36:14, why would they place another higher bid of £31.00 ten seconds later, and then another higher bid eleven seconds later for £37.00, and then another higher bid thirteen seconds later for £47.00...?
There were still hours to go till the end of the auction, so why would someone bid against themself from £27.00 to £47.00 over the space of half a minute?
