why are policy documents not issued as a matter of course to customers? (eg motor and home insurance)
I've noticed in the last few years that the 'welcome letter' and policy schedule will give a website link to where the policy document can be downloaded but very few of us will do that.
Surely to comply with the Terms & conditions of an insurance policy, you have to be issued with the details?
 
No. Once you have been issued the policy wording once, there is no obligation to re-issue until there has been an update to it!
 
Because it costs about €2 to print a policy booklet, that's why you don't get a new one every year. Unless the insurer has changed the T&Cs since your last renewal.
 
If it keeps the premiums down I don't mind! I would recommend you print out the T&Cs and booklet in case there is a dispute down the line.
