Hi, this morning there was a strange whurring should from the fuse box. We tried a couple of the switches but it only stopped when we shut off the main switch. Nothing is plugged in or running apart from the fridge / freezer (washing machine / dryer / tv etc all turned off)
Have a freezer full of food so not keen on leaving the power off altogether but obviously safety is more important! Any ideas? Thanks!

Totally unprofessional/novice answer but are there fuses or trip switches? If fuses would one of them be slightly loose and placing a strain on it?

just checked again and the light/heating switch seems to stop it. I presume we should keep this off?

Is the electric meter mounted in the fuse board as this can make the sound you discribe. Also could be a night saver clock in or beside the meter.

Not being smart bud but I have seen too many electrical fires in my time. This sound could be anything from a loose connection to a poorly mounted switch. I would be enclinded to call a reputable Electrician at this stage to ask his opinion. Could be the best fifty Euro you ever spend!
