What a motley crew we may get to choose from...
  • Mary-Lou ('her day will come?')
  • Gerry Adams ('his day will come?')
  • Mairead McGuinness
  • Ryan Tubridy
  • Bertie 'no bank account' Ahern
  • Peter 'Dragon' Casey - again
  • Mary Hanafin
  • Declan Ganley - again
  • Someone as a unified left candidate (not Mary-Lou as she's a nationalist not a socialist)
  • Joe Duffy - from the 'good afternoon to you' party
  • Conor McGregor - wants to punch above his weight..
Or even a rank outsider....
  • Brendan Burgess - power to the people party

Obviously Brendan should get the job but failing that I'd go for Mairead McGuinness.
I'd take anyone on the list, with the possible exception of McGregor, ahead of Micky D.

I agree with one thing .....
There isn't much to choose from .....is this the best ' we' can come up with

Mairead McG or Peter Casey.

Little Mickey D and the lovely Sabina are in for some landing when they return to their semi D in Galway and the daily grind of fending for oneself and making ones breakfast dinner and tae.

Oh to be a fly on the wall!

On the positive side i suspect the diminutive bard will pen several poems on the struggle so there is that to look forward to.

Jeeze I dunno about that.
  • Brendan'd have my No. 1
  • Mairead McGuinness would be there or there about for me, she/her husband were my brother's landlords for a while
  • Gerry-Lou, an interesting option
Turbidity/DuffyMcGregor too showbizzy for me (that's for starters)

The rest on that opening list are total no-nos for me.

Just came on this so I'll need to see if there are a few of my own to propose, and a few "whys" of course.

They recently sold one of their houses in Galway so there'll be a few bob there and given that he's entitled to well over a quarter of a million in pensions I think they'll be able to stay off the breadline.

I predict the next president will be someone whose first name starts with M.

This is based on exhaustive research of recent Presidential campaigns.

I think Mairead McG would be a good president and represent Ireland well - she doesn't strike me as the type to use the presidency in order to push agendas like some of the others on the list ....

.. and she has two M's in her name...

I was thinking of suggesting Saint Bob, Geldof, if your memory doesn't stretch back to the 80's, The Boomtown Rats, Band Aid / Live Aid, the magnificent work he and the others did to fund-raise and deliver food tp Africa.

I watched the documentaries on the BBC recently and I was reminded how powerful a speaker he is. The man has both conceptualisation and charisma in spades, but looking at the recent interviews for the programmes, he has a tendency to lapse into Dublinese / Anglo-Saxon as his preferred form of address.

Sorry man I love you but I can't nominate you.

I'm not buying the narrative that Mary Lou would "walk it" if she ran...as reported in various media.

She's quite a divisive figure and not popular with a large cohort- especially among the older age group. I think she'd have quite a tough battle with any serious contenders.

In fact I don't think she'll run...a poor result wouldn't look good for SF who seem to have peaked a long time ago.
