White marks on clothes after washing

I am using Surf washing powder in my washing machine but lately there are white marks on clothes after washing (both 30 & 40 degree wash). Anyone any recommendations or suggestions as to whether it is my machine or my powder. Dont want to pay for callout to have machine looked at to be told its my washing powder.

Could well be your powder - or too much of it rather.

Can you try with a liquid detergent to make a comparison?

Agreed in general, but IME LIDL/ALDI tablets are very difficult to dissolve and almost impossible to rinse out of dark clothes. I used up all mine on sheets, towels, tea-towels etc and haven't bought any since.

I have the same problem on dark clothes, but I always use liquid not powder. Anyone???

I used to get this sometimes especially on dark clothes ....the manual said it was due to not occassionally using a boil wash which would remove residual detergent deposit build ups..... especially from constant low temperature wash cycles.

Another trick is to switch from bio to non-bio or whatever and to swap makes or switch from supermarket "own brand" to branded for a while and then switch back. Another trick is to use ordinary washing soda instead of expensive detergent and do away with water softeners, rinse aids and colour catchers.

Most of the chemical companies regularly produce a "new and improved" version of their detergents for the very reason that residue builds up in clothes over time, leaving marks and dulling colours.

This is something that has driven me mad for years and not just a problem with one machine. We have a Miele machine now and they appear to have the water usage cut back a lot in the machine. I have cut back on the powder a lot over the last few years to the point where I wonder if there is enough. We have to be careful to use non-bio as some of us have eczema or just get the itchy feeling from using wrong powder or liquid. I've stuck with Persil as Surf, Bold, Daz and others made us appear flea infested

Also have a problem with what appears like specks of chewing gum like substance. If its left to dry it can be brushed off. I think its scum from the water as it gathers inside the rubber seal on the door. A boil wash every now and again appears to help but doesn't get rid of it completely. It happened a lot more with our previous machine. I'm told the water in our area is not hard.
