500K currently on deposit.

Where to put/spread it for security and reasonable return (3%-5% APR) for 2-3 years.

Was thinking mix of BOI 2 year 4.5%, some state savings, Nationwide UK and UB, however after reading many posts on AAM, now wishing to avoid term deposits in favor of on-demand.

It seems that off-shore accounts would still be affected by Ireland leaving the euro and may incur hassle with Income Tax on interest etc. So is offshore worth the hassle?

If ECB rate is expected to go up 1% in next 12-18 months how is this likely to affect deposit rates?

Hi Short Term,

Nationwide UK @ 1 Year term deposit @ 3.65% has the best parts of both a term deposit and an instant access account. You can get instant access to you account but subject to a 90 day interest penalty. Hence, you can get a good return, a UK guarantee deposit if under 100,000 EUR and the money is there if an emergency occurs.

Also, Ulster Bank @ 1 year term deposit @ 3.70% gives you instant access with currently no penalties for withdrawals during the term. The T&C's state that they can charge you a penalty, and they night in the future, but they currently don't charge.

Personally, I think there is far too much uncertainty around to be locking your money in BoI for 2 years.
