Im trying to locate a supplier in Dublin (south city if possible) to provide stone for a contemporary hearth which will be raised 1 ft off the ground. It is an open fire. I dont want marble or granite, Im looking for a plain, solid colour i.e. no speckles, smooth, matt finish maybe in grey or cream/off white. Ive searched the web and have found images of the fireplace im trying to recreate but I cant find the name of the material used in the images.
Ive been told slate is my only option but im worried its not strong enough?
Anyone know of any suppliers?
Also Ive been told all hearths now have to be 18" deep by Law, cant find anything on web anyone know if this is true?
