I have seen the financial best buys, but I would appreciate peoples opinion on where is best to deposit

Depending on their age the could look at pension funds, my mum has one - she is guarenteed a monthly income in additition to a guarenteed rate rise.

Consider the IIB Bank Payout Portfolio for what seems an excellent balace of risk and guarantee capital over a 3 year period with optional yearly income (I have no affiliation with IIB Bank).

I'd probably do it myself if I had the motivation to upset my current investment situation.

Taking an income without risk limits choice to deposits and with the demise of trust in Northren Rock, Anglo Irish will probably continue to give best ongoing rates over the next three years.
