A newly built house is now overlooking our house and I'm looking to plant a tree or two to maintain some of our privacy.Someone has suggested a hornblower (?) as instant tall cover. Anyone able to direct me to supplier, south dublin area and what type of cost would I be looking at?

The hornbeam is a non-native, deciduous, hard-wood and is slow-growing, if it survives and thrives.

Would you consider a native plant instead?

I would. Any suggestions? The density is irrelevant as it is just to act as a bit of cover. Suppliers? Price?

Native willow (not weeping willow) grows fast and gives good cover & privacy.

no connection with the web-site - I googled it and there are loads more.

HTH

Ok thanks for that. I'm sure being located in Offaly will add to the price. I was just wondering if anyone had personal experience and slightly nearer to Dublin because I want them to visit and give advice.

Ask your question on the [broken link removed] - they have a lot of helpful posters. You need to specify such things as desired height, both when purchased and eventual height, spread, whether deciduous or evergreen, whether native or not.

Remember, a fast growing tree stays that way - it doesn't stop growing when it's reached the height you want it at. Fast-growing often means high-maintenance.

Mimoso is your man. Fast growing and stays green all year. Nice yellow flower in Janurary when very little else is in flower. Any good garden centre.
