When is a gangster not a gangster and what is a gangster?

My blood has been boiling since I first heard today's news headline on Raidió Teilifís Éireann Radio 1, at 6:30 this morning. Do these people have no shame or solid brass necks? A few years mixed in with the general population of 'Da Joy' would do them good.

Anyway, since since Brendan values his house, the question arises 'When is a gangster not a gangster and what is a gangster?'

Hopefully at some stage in the future the courts and a jury will get to decide whether or not some of these people were gangsters. However if they were not gangsters, were they instead simply incompetents?

were they instead simply incompetents?

That crosses the mind. I saw a couple of minutes a program on Network 2 last night, were Alistair Darling called in all the Bankers. Told them their Banks were bankrupt and the government was going have to bail them out. They did not believe they were in any trouble! Did the men at the top have too many 'Yes Men' advising them?

To be fair to Fingleton (and saying that makes me sick) but he has got a point. I don't like people hiding behind the privilage of the Dail to make statements like this. I don't remember politicians lining up to make similar comments about corrupt politicians over the years and they were proven charges!

You've got a point Sunny, but I do think that this is a start. After the bankers, the politicians could discuss their own melange of the word we can't mention, cowboys and animals feeding at a trough. Not forgetting the black suited arrogant perverts who deem themselves to be the moral wing of Official Homo Sapiens. How about introducing a bonus scheme for naming and shaming - this would be made up of money and a % mark up for each vote got in the following election. Then, let all sides read David Adam's august article in today's IT, "Vatican has questions to answer on abuse scandals", and discuss on live TV to see if a similiar plan could clean up their shops and hopefully their rectitude.

@Towger re: your question above "BTW, is it possible to enable pictures in this forum?"- No, that's a restriction on the site as a whole, but you can post links to external pictures.

Can someone explain what this post/thread is about? Are the newsreaders on RTE involved in some sort of subversive activity?

Well it's good to see Mr Fingleton has some notion of what is right and what is wrong. Let's see if he can put this new discerning judgment to some good use in another direction, let's say one a little closer to home.

my Partner calls me a gangster all the time... i.e. getting my own way etc!!! hehe! being cute I call it

And so we get deflected from reality again. We should not be giving either side webspace on this.....we should demand a Socialist state.....seeing as we now own it :)

Has anyone asked Messrs Gilligan/Hutch/Ward how they feel about being associated with Fingers?
