What to plant

I need to plant trees in my garden. Fast growing and screening are priority and I am not keen on leylandii. I live in a housing estate and am overloolked at the back. We are on a large corner site so we have a lot of room to play with.

Thanks

Laurel is great - fast growing, evergreen and nice to look at, I think.

I have 2 eucalyptus at the end of my garden but they so grow very tall, we have to do a job on ours they've got so tall.

What about:

Cratageus (pink whitethorn), purple cherry, hornbeam, cherry blossom, mountain ash, holly, snowy mespilis (amelanchier), purple maple, a selection of conifers.

I have all of these for screening at the back + shrubs and they are low maintenance and provide good all-year round cover and interest for birdlife. The purple cherry trees flower early and leaves stay very late in the season.

You may have to buy mature specimens for immediate cover.
