What size Solid Fuel Stove do I need?

I'm sure this has been covered loads of times but I'm looking to replace our existing fireplace with a stove the room where the stove is going is only 13ft x 13ft but we have double doors always open leading into our kitchen area which is about 13ft x 20ft and then more double doors into our sun room 8ft x 12ft usually open too.

What size stove is the best - my main concern is the room where the stove will actually be will get too hot?

Any ideas please
 
Do you want a stove with a back-bolier fitted? If so, you will need a larger stove to produce the heat necessary to heat rads in other rooms (the boiler will obviously suck a lot of the heat from the fire, leaving less heat for that room ); if not, you can manage with a smaller one, as a larger fire will make the room very hot before that heat has a chance to dissipate elsewhere in the house, but obviously this is not as good a method of heating other rooms. A lot is down to choice!
 
Even the smallest waterford stanley the Oisin will output 6kW of heat which would be plenty for a 13 x 13 ft room. Opening doors may have worked well in the past for small two room cottages but does not work well well in todays larger houses, you'll have draughts all over the place trying to encourage the heat out.

What you should look at is one of the larger stoves (Tara/Fionn) with a back boiler which you can plumb into two newly installed rads in both of those other rooms. Simple and cheaper than trying to hook it into your main system.
 
Hi I hadn't planned on putting in a back boiler - and i'm not sure how big a job it is to put one have my plumber coming around next week, I think probably the stand alone stove without back boiler is probably our best option.
 
Mary 6-8kw sove should be fine the problem arisies if you want to heat the adjoining room the inner room may be uncomfortably hot. some people think a 5kw stove looks too small but it is a lot of heat in a room. if theres a fireplace opening you should also consider an inset convecting stove a sit wont encroach on your livin space but can be up to 7kw output.
 
Hi FMC there is a fireplace in the room - I've no idea what an inset convecting stove is like do they work in the same way as free standing stove.
 
Mary they sit back completely in to the opening leaving pretty much only the door on view but instead of radiating the heat on all sides like a freestanding stove they convect it by taking in cool air at the bottom and venting it out heated at the sides or top.like in the link below I have no affiliation to any stove in particular but do sell stoves so i am biased in that regard.

I should add you may need to change the insert on the fireplace if its not granite as these stoves need a flat surface.
 
i have the above mentioned stove and the heat it gives off in the sitting room is great but i would have loved the option of a back boiler stove but the house was never plumbed for it,its seems a shame all the heat is giving off could be going to heat up the rest of the house
