What payments can you get for a New baby / wife on maternity leave

Hi all

Can anyone tell me what state benefits my wife and I can claim. We had a new baby 15 days ago. My wife is on maternity leave since Jan.

I transfered her tax credits to me.
We applied for the Child Benefit today.

Is there a payment / tax credit for dependants? Would this be for baby only?

If she is receiving maternity benefit and you have already applied for children's allowance then that is the limit of what you will get. There are no dependent tax credits.

Is she going back to work when her maternity leave ends?

Otherwise you could apply for the medical card and family income supplement which is means tested.

I just looked up the FIS limits and we would not qualify.

She does not intend to go back to work after her maternity leave is up, however we cannot afford this drop in income.
 
after maternity leave is up she will be unpaid, maybe if she has enough stamps she might get something, but ultimately unless you earn pittance, you'll have to support her..
 
No deputy you can't claim her as a dependent either. That's why she has transferred her tax credits to you! :)
