What Insurance is Required on Rented Property

We're just about to rent out a house - we have insurance to cover the contents(as it is furnished) and the house itself. Do we need to have any extra insurance in case someone that is renting the property gets injured, like public liability insurance or something like that?

You have to have landlord's liability insurance - incase a tenant injures himself on your property and holds you liable, for example a trip on a loose stair carpet.

Optional is 'Loss of Rental Income' insurance - this covers you if the property becomes uninhabitable, for example due to flood or fire. It's a good idea if you really can't cover the mortgage repayments without the rental income and costs approx. €50 per annum.

Both premiums are allowable deductions from rental income for tax purposes.
