I'm renting a house out & need to get insurance. What details would you have to know before asking for a quote? They said you'd have to know the exact size of the house to calculate how much it would cost to rebuild, is there a standard cost for a Dublin 3 bed semi or how would you work it out, does anyone know? Also does anyone know who does the best deals on home insurance?

if you are renting, you should not need to apply for House & Contents insurange. This is what the landlord should have (the contents cover is only for his contents, not the tenants). You should only need to apply for Contents insurance as you do not own the house.

Most larger insurance companies have an online quote, so you can get an idea of what information is needed.

If you are the LANDLORD, all you need is the rebuilding cost, and the replacement cost of YOUR contents. Allow 10/20% on top of value of building to cover removal of debris, fees etc. You will need to tel the insurer that the house is let and they may require details of the type of tenant you are renting to - students, family, couple etc. You will need extra cover covering your liability as landlord as well.

phone broker or one of the insurance companies for quote - most online systems do not allow for rented properties.
