What happens unvested stock options when company is sold?

It has recently been announced that the US company (A) I work for will be sold to another US company (B). The deal is expected to be complete within 2 months.

I have unvested stock options and restricted stock units in company A. My company A has not told me yet what is to happen with them. Can I expected the vesting of the stock to to be accelerted and converted into stock and/or options in company B? Or, will my unvested stock simply become nullified? Do I have any control over the matter? Thank you.

As far as I am aware, the treatment of the unvested options will be decided by the trems of the sale of the company - you will have no control over the matter.

What is usual is that the vesting of the shares is accellerated, OR the new company gives options in the new company in exchange for the old.

Wait and see what you are advised in due course.
