hi
i was made redundant on tuesday.
I have been told by the company that they can pay me all I am due including payment in lieu of notice by the end of dec or else I can get paid in jan (as my official date of termination on my RP50 is the 2.2.2009). getting paid in jan would mean I would not be liable for as much tax as my final payment would be in the next tax year.
However I need to make sure that I will not lose out in jobseekers allowance.
What I need to know is what date should i actually sign on? It seems that there is a backlog of 8-10 weeks on dublin social welfare offices. If I sign on before christmas will it make any difference to getting my final employers payment in jan. I have tried ringing round and the social welfare have said I can't sign on until I am actually un employed. But they also said any delay in sigining on could mean I lose out on payments.
So question is should I get all my payments from my employer now and sign on straight away or will the dole office even look at my applicaton if I go to them before the actual termination date on my rp50 which I presume is the first day I am offically unemployed?
Have worked for the same company for 14 years and never signed on so this is all new to me...
Thanks
