What bike lock

I am about to buy a bike and was wondering what lock I should get. The bike is lower end, 300e. I an sure some locks are very easy to open, just wandering at what point do the locks get useful.

Apparently you should get both different types of locks - a chain, and the u-shaped rigid lock. The wisdom behind it is that most bike thieves will have the aparatus for breaking just one, either bolt cutters for the chain or a a hammer for breaking u-shaped lock.

I guess if you have both you double your chances of keeping your bike - but if they really want to take it they'll find a way unfortunately

Two golden rules.
1) Make your bike harder to steal than the one beside you
2) Be choosy where you lock your bike, nice open public place with lots of passing people is best.
