Hi all,

Am heading over in Sept for 5 days with a friend and will be doing all the touristy sights during teh day but would will be socialising probably everynight.

Just wanted to know would it be better to get a hotel in Beyoglu area or to base ourselves in Sultanahmet where a lot of the the sights seem to be based. But was reading that the restaurants were catering for teh tourists so quality wouldn't be the best and I'm not sure about the night life there.

Are taxis cheap to go from Beyoglu to Sultanahmet?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would go with Beyoglu or Taksim. Stayed in both and found them good starting points. Sultanahmet is a place you want to visit during the day. Not much point in staying there for the night.

+1 on the advice above ... I wouldn't stay in Sultanahmet (certainly not anywhere in in the very touristy streets closest to the Blue Mosque / Hagia Sofia)

Getting from Sutlanahmet to Beyoglu is pretty easy on the tram (new modern and efficient) and taxis are fairly cheap and very easy to find .. if you take the tram there's a bit of an uphill walk or a funny underground funicular railway at the last bit.
