What are we watching on TV?

Presumably the Verdi Requiem is on? A resounding chorus of Dies Irae for poor old Heimir!
Not quite... an eclectic mix of songs performed by Jess Gillam including some with Irish and yes Icelandic connnections.

Although Irish fans may relate to such titles as:
Oh what can be done
Chasing sheep is best left to shepherds (as an Armenian forward dances around the Irish defence)

I Love all types a genres when it comes to music films and TV shows to the point that my friends have said in the past that there should be white line up my back as I'm so middle of the road but if I was to pick one genre in film that I love more, it would be sci-fi
I think if you were to do a top ten of this genre the "Alien franchise" would be a worthy candidate
I have enjoyed all of the films down the years and believe for maximum enjoyment they are better seen on the big screen than small
And generally speaking think that a film franchise doesn't work when they move to the small screen, until now

Anybody who's interested in this franchise and has access to Disney should checkout Alien Earth
I just finished watching it last night and am thinking that it's worth a second viewing as it's that good
The drama, suspense and horror are all there in a very clever and well written combining of Alien and Peter Pan
The acting and cinematography are up there with the best of the big screen offerings
And best of all, although not confirmed, it looks like there will be a second season

And best of all, although not confirmed, it looks like there will be a second season
There better be! Need to know how this plays out.
Pros:
It had some intense episodes.
Compelling performances e.g. Wendy, Kirsh, Morrow

Cons:
It did take a lot of episodes to get to the point it got to at end of first season.
Also, some 'capabilities' of Wendy I'm not convinced about for the Alien universe but won't go into cos spoilers.
The lax security at times seems like a plot device rather than making sense in universe.

One more comment on Alien Earth - I wasn't expecting all the stunt\slapstick violence Adrian Edmondson would be familiar with from Young Ones, Bottom etc would be put to use here!
So he has now appeared in two major scifi franchises after a cameo in Star Wars The Last Jedi.

I'm a big fan of Alien Earth.

I've also been watching Generation V. A great spin off from the universe of The Boys. Probably the most dystopian and certainly the most violent Super "Hero" franchise ever.

I wasn't sure where else to mention it, seems like RTE will be running a documentary on the tracker mortgages scandal. Starting Monday 3rd November titled "Trackers: The People v The Banks"

Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue - BBC1, last episode airs Saturday night. I expect RTE2 might pick it up.

Diverting watching for Halloween season. Kinda like a cross between Lost and Agatha Christie.
A small passenger plane crashes in the remote Mexican jungle... most of the passengers survive the crash but then the body count starts rising.
From the pen of Anthony Horowitz who created Foyle's War, Magpie Murders and adapted Midsomer Murders and Agatha Christie for ITV.

6 x 45 minute episodes, I'd recommend trying to watch it in two or three episode binges.

Also Halloween appropriate... RTE documentary on the origins of Halloween, "Oíche Shamhna: An Ancient Mystery"

2 x 60 minute episodes. Some Irish language narration although most of the interviewees speak in English.

Living with Lucy - Virgin Media -Sundays:9.30pm- Interesting series where Lucy Kennedy moves in with some well known person for a few days. I thought it was going to be one of those boring experiences with the same old celebrities, but no, it’s an interesting series. I came away with a different point-of-view after watching the James McClean episode. Crime journalist Nicola Tarrant (Sunday World and Crime World Podcast) hosted Lucy last night. I learned from the programme that Organised Crime finances the Irish Far-Right which diverts Garda resources giving some “free” time to the criminal population. Nicola has 86 locks in her front door - glamorous lifestyle? I think not. Eamon Dunphy made a cameo appearance and contributed not much.

Watching Donal Skehan's Real Time Recipes on RTE. I really like what he cooks & his approach (not fussy & possible for the home cook). Made his "Cheats Chicken Cordon Bleu" for tonight and it looks awesome.. The recipe on the RTE website, correctly lists capers as an ingredient, but doesn't say when to add them. I added them in Step 8.

I finished looking at Gracepoint on Prime last night . I thought it was excellent...great twists and turns all through...

Watched The Feud on Netflix. Easily, the worst balderdash I've ever watched. Kept with it to find out what happened, but honestly save yourself...the worst acting and the worst plot you can imagine.
