Last weekend we had a company out on the roads all around our house, they were an English company and had literally miles and miles of bundles of red cable all along the side of the road. Trucks were then driving up and down as if scanning the ground. Any idea what this was about? just curious and didn't want to be one of those nosey old gits who stops to question the workers

I would definitely ask for I.D. and ask what they are doing ... in the interests of the local community, the security of my home and my neighbours homes.
Recently eircom telephone cables have been stolen in broad daylight by "workmen" in hi-viz vests .. people thought they were legitimate workers / contractors.

I pulled up with the guys on the road and they told me that it was a system for testing for minerals. They would appear to be very legit as they were very obvious and the Gardai were aware of them. They were 2 weeks in the area
