i quit my job last november (suffering from depression)and now in the process of rebuilding my life i wonder if i am entitled to any state welfare because i quit.i have had one or 2 interviews this week and i would hopeful of been back in work in the next 2-3 weeks .i didnt sign on or try to sign on as i have my pride but i really need to get some income in to keep bread on the table .

thanks in advance

great site and a pity to see a lot of people in the same boat

If you quit you usually have to wait something like 6 weeks before you can sign on. In your case though, if you have the relevant letters from your doctor you may be entitled to disability benifit. Best to contact your local Social Welfare office and ask them.

Unhappy, I sort of know how you feel, when I was unemployed I didnt sign on for a few weeks, but the lack of pennies dropping prompted me into taking action and hitting the social welfare office, this is your right. To see what action you can take next have a browse through this site. www.welfare.ie/schemes/unemp/index.html
hope the new job comes your way!
