Is there a way of comparing social benefits ( Job seekers allowance, Illness Benefit, Contributory pension) in Ireland and the UK?

There's a significant difference in the headline rates but how do they compare when all of the associated payments are added on?

Not easy to compare.

Different mix of benefits in the two countries.

The UK has significant tax credits schemes, we have FIS, but these schemes are much bigger in the UK.

Working TC
Child TC
Childcare TC

In Pensions, the UK have had a second-tier pension for all workers.

It was known as SERPS, then State second Pension S2P.

So difficult to compare that with here, where work pensions are not compulsory.

Ireland: Job seekers allowance aged 26 or over €198 per week

UK: Job seekers allowance aged 25 or over £73.10 per week

Also need to factor in housing, healthcare, education costs, cost of living etc

Well no one else was contributing any thing concrete, I thought it was useful to set out the most important headline rate.

Yeah.

Cremeegg, my post wasn't directed at you, it was a response to the OP's question and the complexity of addressing it .
