wedding in vegas

:)myself and my fiancee are getting married in Vegas in Seeptember, we cant decide on a hotel on the strip, andone been there and give us an honest opinion on them plz.

I have stayed in the Luxor which was excellent and also stayed in Excalibur which was a little more basic but very reasonable. We didn't spend much time in the room though!! I think somewhere mid-strip would be a bit more upmarket and romantic for a wedding though. Maybe The Venetian or The Bellagio?

we honeymooned in Vegas. To be honest all the hotels are huge and you get what you pay for. We paid a little extra and stayed in the Venetian hotel. Every room is a suite so rooms are larger than the normal room. Hotel was excellent, staff were very friendly and efficent. Couldn't really fault it.

Check out tripadvisor for reviews but I wouldn't put much weight behind the US citizens reviews as they have very high views on what a hotel should be like and if even a towel is out of place they slate the place. Look for Irish/UK or European reviews to get a more realistic opinion.

to be honest your best bet is to try and stay somewhere on the main strip, from the Venetian/Treasure Island upwards, as thats where most of the main action is. If budget is a factor then try one of the hotels in the older spots, Circus Circus and on towards Freemont Street and so on.

either way decide your budget, do your homework and look for special deals online....such as travelzoo.com (this website got us an upgrade and saved about €600 off an excellent hotel just off Times Square last month). Failing that phone the hotel and speak to a human in the resiverations department and apply a bit of Irish charm and try to get a discount rate or upgraded room. You'll have a better chance of doing that in person rather than the web.

Best of Luck and enjoy

we stayed in the MGM Grand and it was great. I would also recommend the Venetian. the Bellagio is fab, but more expensive. Also Manderlay Bay is gorgeous too, but a tiny bit out of the strip.

Congratulations too by the way. You'll have a fab time.

Do you have any other things planned for the holiday? Grand canyon, hoover dam?

Stayed MGM Grand and Hilton - both excellent and both are opposite ends of the strip, the Hilton being near the "Old" vegas - Freemont street, Golden Nugget etc and the MGM at the airport end.

Do a road trip and visit the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon, as it's your honeymoon why not do a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon, you won't regret it.

The Venetian! Stayed there for 2 nights 3 days. Excellent. Rooms are very generous size. Staff excellent. Has a real feeling of luxury. We walked the strip and had a look in most of the hotels and The Venetian is by far the nicest.
www.lasvegas.com.
We booked on this site.

I recommend the Bellagio...I stay there when in Vegas with the soon to be Mrs Rambo and in New York New York when there with my fellow soldiers.Congrats

Spent 5 months there on J1 in 2003, so I cant comment on the hotels, but hit many a casino during my stay!

Would agree on O'Sheas, its a bit Oirish with crazy shamrocks and the like but they do metre long cocktails, cheap beer and its good
fun w/o feeling like you need to break the bank. You can find quite cheap gambling around the place if you wander around (e.g. Terribles Casino offers penny gambling machines!).

Of the more upmarket casinos, The Luxor is very plush and has a nightclub called Rain, which is very trendy. Also the Palms has a very cool rooftop bar which might be worth a visit. Ceasars Palace is also quite nice but has expensive gambling as far as I recall. If you are feeling homesick or in need of an irish breakfast, the "Nine Fine Irishmen" (the only Irish bar on the strip as far as I know) is located in the New York, New York. They have live music most nights, and it certainly does pay to be Irish in there!

For free extertainment, the fountains outside the Bellagio are fantastic, especially at night, for not so free I would also recommend the roller-coasters that are on top of the Stratosphere and either MGM/NYNY casinos.

Downtown Vegas, although older, is quite nice. It has an old-world feel, that you dont get on the strip, which is very much new money. Downtown is home to the likes of the Golden Nugget and Binions Horseshoe around Freemont Street.

Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam trip is excellent, helicopter ride over G.C. is amazing. Its quite a long drive to and from, we did it in a day but it is quite tiring, especially if you get adventurous and climb down into the canyon. We went down few hundred feet and its alot harder on the way back up!

Hope you enjoy the stay!

For a special occasion I would only stay at the Wynn, Venetian or Bellagio.

Some of the other hotels mentioned on here (Circus Circus for example) are...to put it politely...a kip!

As for the MGM, there are over 1000 rooms there, it can take 20 mins to get from your room to the street!

Whatever about popping into other hotels for lower limit gambling etc, don't skimp on hotels in Vegas (especially with the Dollar being so weak), it's a totally different experience when you stay in a nice hotel.

Have been to Vegas 5 times, stayed in a 3* hotel once and a 5* every other time and it's worth paying for luxury.

i stayed in new york new york. fab hotel. the roller coaster in there is unreal

shesells Re: wedding in vegas
Even worse then! Hardly a place for something special and romantic like a honeymoon!

Are you trying to tell me that Las Vegas is
special and romantic
?? Hardly

And besides, if you read the OP's thread you'll find they asked for recommendations for hotels on the strip and not for somewhere "special and romantic" as you put it:p, who says they are going to have their honeymoon there anyway, the op just said they were getting married there, doesn't mean they are honeymooning there ? !

Vegas can be special and romantic if you stay in the Venetian and don't set foot outside the hotel :D

For a special occasion I would only stay at the Wynn, Venetian or Bellagio.

Agree with shesells these ar the best hotels but also the most expensive

A word of warning - some of the posts use words like romance, special etc. be a little careful as vegas is just a commercial beast and romance may be scarce unless you bring it yourself !

All of the hotels there are huge and I mean HUUUGGGEE. Some are the size of a city block in NY city. You will effectively be just a room number where ever you stay although the staff will be friendly

Having said all that I love Vegas, I find the buzz contageous. Have stayed at the Wynn, Venetian, Bellagio, NewYork, NewYork and the Mirage and enjoyed every minute of every stay.

If you like thrills then go to the top of the Stratosphere at night and do the rides. Definitely do the Grand Canyon by Helicopter unless you are a hiker. Enjoy the bellagio fountains after dinner and take in at least one show with the cirque de soleil. If you like Texas Holdem you can find loads of games from $3 fixed limit to $whatever no limit games you want. you can have loads of fun and free drink in a small game.

Jeez I want to go back soon - maybe we should all move there and cash in on the weak dollar !

Best of luck and enjoy every minute
