We have opened the washing mashine and cleared out all the coins etc that were stopping it from emptying the water .

It worked fine for a few days and now it won't spin .

Checked again and nothing stuck init.

It is taking and emptying the water , but will not wash/spin

Anyone know what could be wrong ?

Its a Hotpoint WMA50

The belt may have come off the drum or snapped. Does it sound like the motor is whirring but the drum doesn't rotate? If it does then I would say belt problem

we had a similar problem with our wm
if nothing is stuck at the very bottom of it (where you can open a small ''door'' and take out all little things like pins and coins), it may be a problem with the circuit board. The guy who came to fix our wm charged us 70E call out charge and quated us 220E to change the board. Needless to say, it was better to buy a new wm for around 350E

Yes, all the advice seems to be towards buying a new machine.

We have logged a call to a service engineer through the shop where we bought wm , so waiting for a reply there .

Our own opinion is that the brushes are worn in motor , as there is a lot of black redidue around the motor , however machine is only 4 years old .

Thanks , It looks like we may have to go for a new one .

Waiting for engineer to ring us with price for call-out and fixing same ( if it is the brushes )

We expect a call-out to cost at least €80 and then ..............?

In the long run it may be cheaper to buy a new one .

Also the electrical store where we bought machine tells us to expect the engineer to ring us within 3/4 working days .( Did'nt think they would be so busy fixing machines )

One thing to check is if you're covered for a 5 year parts guarantee. If you look at most white goods products, they have a 5 year parts guarantee now. If there is any problem with parts when the engineer comes out, they should replace free of charge if still within your guarantee period.

for what its worth, Mastercare in Killester deduct any engineer fees from subsequent purchace of a replacement machine

That happened to us about a year ago, machine would start to spin, not drain and then just stop, was a €1 coin stuck in it but nowhere near the access door at the bottom front of the machine. Think a guy sorted it for around €50 inc callout which was very impressed with!
