Washing machine leaving black gunk on clothes

Gunk is the only way i can think of to describe it! the washing machine is about a year or so old and just recently it's leaving a gooey dark residue on some of the washing. It's not a large amount but obviously a bit of a problem. I have cleaned the inside of the glass and wiped around and inside the seal but it's still happening. I've also put a 90 degree wash on to try and clear it but no luck. Has anyone any ideas?

Hi,
What kind of detergent are you using? I've noticed that tablets in too cold a wash leave white gunk on some clothes...if your'e washing dark colours on too cold a wash with those tablets it might leave black gunk.
Likewise the purple liqui-tabs might have the same effect in too cold a wash

Remove the filters and clean them.

Do you wash runners or insoles in the machine? Some insoles (the carbon impregnated 'odour-absorbing' type) can break up in the machine and leave residue.

Hi, no we don't wash runners and always use Surf liquid. I haven't tried taking out filters or anything like that so i'll give it a go tonight, thanks!

You need to give the washing machine a good clean. The liquids don't have any beach in them to kill mould spores

So clean the rubber parts as much as you can, then one empty wash with a load of bio washing powder and maybe some chlorine bleach. A few extra rinses if you use the bleach.

It is more than lightly the filter is blocked with bits of fluff etc.. and the water is not escaping properly from the machine. Also check if the pipe going to the shore outside isn't blocked.

Are you sure it's the washing machine? corners of collars etc were getting trapped in our dryer and getting something like black rubber marks. It would not come off with any scrubbing. We had to buy a new machine.

I use liquitabs normally and I also think they do not dissolve properly with lower temperatures, leaving that residue on clothes and in the door seal rubber.
