Old ones needing last rites.
I'm looking to spend up to €1500 for both. 11 kg+ load.
I've checked the various on-line suppliers and as usual it's difficult to compare.
Any advice on brand, price, efficiency, supplier etc greatly appreciated.
EG I note most dryers are 'heat pump' but is that not just condenser which I found useless in the past?

Avoid whirlpool and Hotpoint. I will also add bosch to this. Bosch were a once decent brand that are trading on past reputation on genuinely rubbish design and quality now. Will never buy one again.

LG electrical or Samsung are decent brands. Had a miele but despite being great does not justify the crazy price.

Heard a lot on here on beko being great but my experience putting them into rentals has been poor.

Buy cheap buy again.

Have just replaced a 15 year old Bosch with another Bosch.

Also have an Indesit in another rental for the last 12 years.

Condenser dryers can have an outfeed for the condensate & discharge into the regular waste pipe so you don't have empty it.

Personally have never used tumble dryers so can't comment on efficency; rentals all have condensers. Checking the lint is the first thing I do on all inspections; its rarely clean.

Condenser dryers (much different from heat pump despite what I said above:() are apparently being phased out due to poor efficiency?

You might consider siemens also. Same company as Bosch but their premium offering. A little more expensive but better parts and a 5 yr warranty on everything.

Some of the eco modes means the cycle for the dryer takes 4-5 hours. Since I don’t like to leave the house with the dryer running this is a pain. Also my most recent dryer just drys in one direction. I think this means my duvet gets tangled up in knots which is also a pain. Dryer balls don’t seem to help.

I would like much more flexibility on the washing settings than I have as well, while it washes at 30, 40, 50 or 60 I cannot select the spin speed I want to if I want a short or eco wash. A lot of washing machines have 12 programmes which are pre set and no variability is allowed.

These would be my criteria if I was purchasing again. However I only purchase when the previous one dies so I normally are stuck selecting from what is in stock.

Clothes horse, dehumidifier.

Often wonder if one takes into account the electricity used to run the dehumidifier how much the overall saving is

I'm not a big fan of tumble dryers because of the damage that they do to clothes with shrinking some of them despite temperature adjustments. I would have to say though that the towels are so much softer when dried in the dryer rather than clothes line.

I wonder about the eco mode on washers and dryers. I have feeling they are based on the UK market where they factor in the use of water (water charges) as well as electricity, which is not a factor in Ireland.

My cheap and cheerful dehumidifier does 10L/24 hours with a 2L tank and is rated 240W so even running it for 4 hours is less than one kWh unit of electricity.
An added bonus, or not, is your house smells like Peter Crouch or Vogue Williams

Thanks everyone for making the effort to post and advise.
In a funny way I find it reassuring to get differing opinions and I havn't totally made up my mind yet.
EG a samsung washer I was looking at went from €529 to €639 overnight from 1 supplier.
Anyway thanks again.

@charlie007

What did you buy in the end on both the washer and dryer and where did you find the best value? Relative in the market at the moment.

Thanks,

S.E.

My experience is buy cheap, nothing is built to last these days.. Ive had Samsung, Bosch and neither lasted very long. The Samsung was a washing machine that lasted 5 yrs (only 2 of us, wash maybe 3 every 2 weeks), replaced with Beko and so far has outlived the Samsung!
Agree with previous poster, Bosch used to be good, but just expensive now..

When it comes to the likes of Smeg, Miele, a big chunk of the price is for the name!

I think alot depends on luck as well, sure their is some ppl with Samsung washing machines for 10+ years..

The new EU law about fixing products I dont think is going to make much difference, really depends on the cost of fixing, which I think will be too high to make it worthwhile..
