Warning - Credit card use on Motorway Toll

Used my Credit Card on the M4 (Enfield) motorway toll a few days ago in order to use fast/automatic lane - transaction was processed circa 100 times (according to my cc company on the phone just now) and cc balance has been debited by circa €300.
Have had to cancel card as lost/stolen.

Surely this was an error, if the transaction was processed multiple times, and there should just be a chargeback?

oh that is quite critical error you should have told the authoritative persons out there

yeah but imagine the torture trying to deal with the crowd running the toll bridge/station. If they are anything like the crew running the one in Fermoy he did the right thing to cancel his card.
