Wamsler 1100 series cooking range

I was window shopping today and came accross this solid fuel range. Wamsler 1100 series cooking range (german make) I was going to fit a Waterford stanley Donard solid fuel range.

Does anyone know anything/have experience with these ranges.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I asked the above question about 11 months ago. Since then i have purchased and am currently operarting the wamsler 1100.

So i just thought i would give my experience so far.

On the plus side it is great at boiling water for central heating & domestic hot water. It is supplemented with solar and when i get home from work it takes very little time for the heating to come on once i have put down a fire. I mainly use machine cut turf, the sods are long but this not a problem as the firebox is quite large. (i had an old stanley 9 and i was always breaking up the turf before filling the firebox).

On the negative side. The riddling system is not good. Shaking out the ash from the firebox is hard work and no where near as efficient as it should be. I clean it out before i put down a fire so i won't have as much riddling to do. I do this by lifting top lid of and using a poker shake the ash into the ash box To be honest it is the biggest single flaw with the design and it should be better. I find this really annoying.


I have not used it for it for cooking yet.
 
I have no problems with the riddling grate on my Wamsler 1100, but I burn either just logs or a smokeless coal and wood mix, which seems to make ash removal much easier. Maybe you could try and see how it works compared with turfs?
 
Turf ash can be a little damp and sticky, so it does go through suit the riddler (if only batman had some on his batbelt...). Are you cutting it yourself (i.e. getting it freeish) or buying? If buying, you can, as woodsman says, look at logs or at briquettes. The only real problem with logs is they won't burn long in the evening, especially if the draught is not rock solid.

Thanks for the feedback, though. Have you used the oven yet? Is it any good?
 
O.K. just to update some more.

The outer pane of glass in the oven shattered overnight. I phoned the place i bought it and told them and the said the glass was not covered by warranty. I followed up with the manufacturer but the also said it was not covered by warranty.

They reason they gave was that the glass does not break on it's own, but mine did. I was alone in the house and when i went to bed at night it was perfect. I got up the following morning, it was just shattered (like a car windscreen). I can only surmise that it could not handle the heat.

I had to go the place i bought it and they sent out a guy who replaced it. I had to pay them 150 Euros.

To be honest, having now had this Range for a whole year, I can honestly say that I wish I went with a Solid Fuel, Waterford Stanley Donard Range.
