Wall of floor to ceiling storage in open plan dining/living area?

We want to fill one entire wall beside our dining room table with floor to ceiling storage and cover it with fairly modern style full length doors so it kinda just looks like a wall.

We have been thinking about this literally for years but can't come to a decision on what to get.

Can anyone recommend where we should look. Would a wardrobe package from any kitchen/wardrobe provider do the job or should we consider custom made as costs may have come down a lot lately. Budget is faiy tight though.

We have considered slidarobes but am sure they're really expensive. Also considered Ikea wardrobes but would they look okay to have along one full wall?

Thanks, hard to have time to do a lot of research with small kids around but desperately need more storage because of all the stuff they generate!!
 
Yikes, just got a ball park quote of €3,600 from Sliderobes so definitely looking for options! Cheaper kitchen places ballpark of €1,500 for basic wardrobes, but would it look weird to have whats essentially fitted wardrobes in the dining room?
 
Ikea is the place to go, but don't look at the wardrobe or the kitchen range, they do a lot of living room storage.

Both the Billy bookcases and the Besta units (which are deeper than the Billy) come with a range of doors so you can have hidden storage. The Besta also comes with all sorts of drawers and interior fixtures.

Thanks, we've had our eye on the Ikea Besta but don't see full length doors - afraid alll the small doors might look a bit fussy when we think what we want is a more streamlined finish that will look kind of like a wall, IYKWIM

Not an expert on this, but as far as I know the Besta doors fit very flush together and don't have raised border "edges", so if you had a wall of all the same kind of door it would actually look very streamlined, especially as you can have drawers and shelves and whatnot inside any doors.

You'd probably be best to wait until they open in Dublin so you can see them first hand. Sometimes the website has too many options when all you want is something simple, like the same unit repeated over and over. But they are definitely very good value for money, much better than other prices you got, so definitely worth a look.
 
thanks for the replies dubgem, Ikea seems a bit too good to be true which is prob why I'm assuming we'll have to pay more for decent quality but we'll wait and have a look at what they've got when they open.

BTW, this might be of interest to Silverwake, I've figured out we could get the "carcass" and shelves from anywhere e.g. Ikea or Cash and carry and then get stylish sliding doors from a sliding wardrobe provider. End result similar to a Sliderobes system but a lot cheaper, still dearer then Ikea though.

I have one room in the house which will have a mezzanine floor with the bed overlooking a living area which will be where the built-in wardrobes will have to go and because it's a living room, I'm looking for a flush wall-like effect too. The best solution I've come up with to date are a row of built in wardrobes (interiors can be anything you like) the wardrobes come without handles (spring open to the touch) and at the moment I'm trying to decide whether to go for them in cream or white, if I decorate the walls around them in the same colour they'll blend in completely. I'm sure all built-in wardrobes suppliers do them but I'm getting mine from Bedroom Elegance in Dorset St. I've used them before and would recommend them without hesitation. No connection whatsoever to the company just a very satisfied customer.
