Do the wall brackets differ between different manufacturers or are they all the same? Do you need to get one specifically for the TV you have or are they all compatible?

Most of them are compatible with the VESA standard.

There are three sizes of VESA mount, C,D, and E, depending on the size of the TV. Most regular LCD's use the 'C' size, large plasmas use the 'E' size.

Quite a good explanation [broken link removed]

You'll get the regular mounts in Power City and the like, eBay may be a bit cheaper. The Rolls Royce mounts are by Vogels, some of which can rotate vertically to level the screen, which is handy because it can be quite awkward to get a bracket level.

You need good solid fixings on the wall, preferably some type of rawlbolt.

We recently bought a 'Sanus' bracket that allows you to mount a tv to the wall and also extend the arm and tilt the screen. Got it in Harvey Norman in Cork for a good price. Seems good enough quality, haven't used it yet tho...

You can get different brackets for different lcds. The question you have to ask yourself, is where you want to put the screen, and what you want to do with it. Although there are many brands out there, you will have to consider the quality of some, after all no point in buying a cheap bracket if it doesnt do what you want and may fall off. Personally I would rather not have to look at an ugly bracket while watching tv. On some web sites, you can check what options are available. I used this site myself [broken link removed]
