Hi all
I look after my mother who has late stages parkinsons disease.
I applied for carers allowence at the end of january and have not yet had a decision on my claim..is this a normal amount of time to wait for a decision? i've phoned the carers section on a weekly basis for the last month but each time i'm told ''it's with the deciding officer and you should hear soon'' anyone any experience with this?
thanks

AFAIK, there are desperate delays in Longford office where the carer's benefit section is. In the meantime, you could go to the Community Welfare Officer if you are experiencing hardship due to this delay. You should also write a letter of complaint to your TD (when you know who it is next week!) as this might get it fasttracked.

Hiya, i was waiting 3months to hear back from longford on a decision regarding carers allowance.

I would say keep ringing at least once a week. They were always very plesent to deal with.

If you do get it, you will get it back payed to when you applied

Sorry I havent been much help.
